Word Study Foldable Templates - Digital Download

Hello, Internet!

It's been quite some time since I last sat down to blog about some products, or about how the school year is going. Spring Break has passed and now we have just 4 weeks before our state assessments. Eek!

As we get closer to the STAAR test, I'm constantly finding new ways to keep my students effectively busy while I pull small groups as often as possible to reinforce skills.

In fact, just this week I'm planning on implementing a new literacy station system. I'm nervous because we're getting our second walk through from the district this week, but I know I need to change things up! We don't have time to waste, so I'm making the switch the same week as their walk through any way. Wish me luck!

I do hope to share more about the new system with you guys. First though, I'd like to make sure that things go as I plan for them to go. If they don't, I might have to make some tweaks before I share it all. This all makes me think: could be an entire TpT download! {{FUN!!}}

Any way, before I get too side-tracked...I initially started this blog post to inform you about a product that I just added to my store today, Word Study Foldable Templates.

I initially made one of these foldable templates when I knew I would be out one day last week. It went over so well & was such a valuable activity for my kids that I made even more & decided to sell them.

As you can see in the preview above, the foldable templates are two-pages each and they should be copied front to back. Then, students cut along the dotted edge and start completing their foldable. I have created a foldable template for the following word study skills: homophones, homographs, antonyms, synonyms, suffixes, & prefixes.

While my students completed the Multiple-Meaning Words foldable last week independently, I'm also going to place some of the other skills at literacy stations. Students will easily be able to manage these activities on their own & be quite successful!

If you think this is something that will work in your class, I highly recommend this for Grade 2, Grade 3, or Grade 4 {my students are in the 3rd grade}. Just go to my TpT shop & download!

Enjoy! :)

Language Arts Word Study Review Book & Assessment - Digital Download

Hello again, everyone...finally!

It's been so long. Like everyone, I've been so busy & life has been hectic! Still enjoying it all though, so that's good. :)

I'm bringing to you here something that I've recently been working on with my students - word study skills. Of course, we've been working on these skills all year long, but I'm getting to the point where I expect my students to master each of these skills since they'll be so heavily tested on our state assessment, the STAAR.

I created a Word Study Review Book that your students can use just as mine did. They write the definition for each skill: Prefix, Suffix, Base Word, Synonyms, Antonyms, Homographs, and Homophones. Then, they can either illustrate the classroom anchor chart for that skill, or draw something that helps them remember that skill. Two versions of the Word Study Review Book are included in this digital download.

Students will also have an opportunity to write examples for each of these skills, too. I even let my students work in small groups around the room, which they really, really enjoyed!!

This digital download also includes an assessment for your students. It's a two-page, 15-question multiple-choice assessment that thoroughly assesses each of these word study skills: prefixes, suffixes, base words, synonyms, antonyms, homophones, & homographs.

I hope that your students enjoy this as much as mine did!

Hope you're all doing well! :)

Synonym Puzzle Activity - Digital Download

This puzzle idea was something I originally found through another TpT'er, SunnyDays, who listed FREE Synonym Puzzle Squares. I loved her idea so much, but I needed more activities as I wanted to create 5 stations within my room with this activity.

So...I created my own!

This Synonym Puzzle Activity pack includes 5 different puzzles and one game board template. To make the activity, I printed these on card stock (with 5 separate game boards), cut them out as necessary, and laminated (during my conference, yes!).

My students really enjoyed working on them! I plan on making some Antonym Puzzles for Thursday, as well. I think it's such a fun way to reinforce content with students. They love working in small groups and rotating around the room. I love to watch them interact this way, too!

I think they would work great in my guided groups, as well. Each student could have their own puzzle board to work with. I know they're also idea for literacy stations in my room, too! Independent, fun, & valuable!

If you'd like your own Synonym Puzzle Activity pack, please visit my TeachersPayTeachers store & download. I want you to know how much I truly appreciate your support of my TpT store. It's nice to have some extra money (that I end up putting right back into my class because I can't resist)!

Synonyms Anchor Chart

Synonyms, synonyms, synonyms, synonyms, synonyms.

Say that 5 times fast!

I always laugh when I'm talking about synonyms with my kids because 9 times out of 10, it takes each child at least a couple times to pronounce the word correctly. Symomyms, synonyns, CINNAMON!

The ongoing thing is, "Cinnamon!"

So, needless to say, the Synonyms Anchor Chart has to be a cinnamon roll!

Synonyms Anchor Chart

Please forgive the poor picture quality. I need to start bringing my camera to school so I don't have to settle for iPhone shots!

Remember: to make cute anchor charts, you don't have to be an artist, or have the best handwriting. {Please look above!} Just think outside the box! :)

To see other anchor charts I've made for my classroom: Classroom Anchor Charts.
